The Odyssey Trailer Criticism Over Gen-Z Style Writing

The trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie was launched on Tuesday, 5th April and received mixed reactions, including both praise and criticism. The main criticism came when the villainous Antinous tells Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, that he will marry Penelope and that he should stop waiting for Odysseus to return. The line, “You’re pining for a daddy you didn’t even know, like some sniveling bastard,” received backlash, and Telemachus replies, “My dad is coming home.” Critics said these lines sound odd for the story’s timeline, and users said “father” should have been used instead of “daddy.” Another criticized line is Odysseus shouting, “Let’s go!”. On the other side, many people defended the trailer, saying it is mythology, not history.

What users wrote on social media:

“The American accents are incredibly jarring for a movie in this time period,” one person wrote on Reddit.

“For something as big as The Odyssey, you’d think they’d make the way the characters speak to each other sound less… modern?”.
